Sonic Classics brings three classic titles together in one package for the Sega Mega Drive. You pick from Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine right from a simple menu. The controls feel exactly like the original standalone releases you remember. It supports single player runs as well as split-screen multiplayer and co-op modes depending on which game you choose to launch. This compilation lets you switch between high-speed platforming action and puzzle solving without needing multiple cartridges. The standout feature here is having these specific titles in one spot, though the collection does have a notable limitation. You cannot use the Sonic 2 cartridge to lock-on with Sonic And Knuckles to unlock Knuckles the Echidna as he appears in later versions. The Mean Bean Machine entry adds a nice variety since it shifts genres entirely away from side-scrolling action into falling block puzzles. Most fans will recognize the gameplay loops immediately since nothing changed from the original releases. It serves as a straightforward collection for players who want quick access to these older games on one cart.
