Sonic Gather Battle is a fan-made arcade fighter built on the Little Fighter MD-2 engine. It pits characters from Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros, Mega Man X, and Bleach against each other in 2D brawls. The 2013 PC release supports single player and multiplayer modes with simple controls and fast action. Leemena’s creation blends pixel art sprites with basic combat mechanics focused on punches, kicks, and special moves. The game is infamous for its controversial DRM. The developer embedded malicious code to block sprite extraction, which instead rendered the game unplayable on infected systems. This backfired as modified versions spread online. While technically a fighting game, its legacy is tied to the security risks it posed. A relic of early 2010s modding culture, it remains a cautionary footnote in gaming history.
