Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II is a follow-up to its 2010 comeback, adding new levels and co-op play to the classic platforming formula. You control Sonic as he teams up with Tails to stop Dr. Eggman and his upgraded Metal Sonic. The game leans into fast-paced running, ring-collecting, and boss battles while reintroducing characters and settings from earlier games. Co-op lets players split roles, Sonic handles speed sections while Tails takes on slower puzzles. The controls feel tight, and the level design mixes straightforward platforming with a few clever twists. The game stands out for its return to basics approach, which fans of the early 3D Sonic games might appreciate. It includes a few nods to older titles like Sonic & Knuckles, and the co-op mode adds replay value even if it’s limited to specific sections. Released across multiple platforms including mobile and consoles, it’s a brief but polished addition to the series. Some players found the lack of new mechanics underwhelming, but the tight execution and retro references keep it engaging for longtime followers.
After the events of Episode I, Little Planet returns, and Dr. Eggman locates and repairs Metal Sonic. Sonic hears that Eggman is back, and reunites with Tails to stop him. Meanwhile, Metal Sonic searches for the heroes and sees them fly away in the Tornado, following them using Tails' rocket.
