Sonic.EXE is a platformer that turns familiar faces into unsettling threats. You start as Tails navigating a warped world where animals are gone and Sonic is... different. His grin is too wide and his offer to play feels like a dare. As you progress you switch to Knuckles then Robotnic each bringing their own twisted perspective to the chaos. Levels mix fast action with moments of eerie stillness as the tone shifts from frantic to grim without warning. The game’s dark reimagining of the Sonic universe stands out sharply. MY5TCrimson pulls no punches with the tone or violence which feels at odds with the colorful roots of the characters. Released in 2013 it’s a short but jarring experience that lingers more for its tone than its mechanics. Fans of edgy indie takes might find it intriguing but be warned the unsettling vibe isn’t for everyone.
