Souls of Amethyst is a brief, self-contained action-adventure game built around quickfire dungeon crawling and elemental puzzle solving. Players guide a character through handcrafted levels filled with switches, pressure plates, and foes that drop loot when defeated. Combat is simple but responsive, with a focus on switching between fire, water, and earth abilities to bypass obstacles. The map loops back on itself in a way that encourages experimentation, letting you revisit areas with new tools to unlock shortcuts. Despite being developed in just seven days by a trio of creators, the game shows a surprising amount of polish. The art style has a distinct, painterly quality that sticks out in a crowded indie space, and the tight level design makes every unlock feel satisfying.
