Space Ace II: Borf's Revenge casts you as Dexter, a timid cadet who morphs into a superhero to rescue his captured lover. The game unfolds like a fast-paced comic strip, with each scene lasting 27 seconds and demanding split-second key presses to dodge traps or shoot enemies. You don’t guide Dexter directly, just tap arrow keys to steer him or hit Insert to fire. Miss a timing window and you’ll trigger a goofy death animation, wasting one of three lives. The PC version trims the original arcade experience, chopping scenes and cramming it across 12 clunky 5.25" floppies. The game leans into its cartoon roots with slapstick gags and colorful chaos. While the rigid controls and fragmented pacing can frustrate, fans of old-school quick-time challenges might appreciate the retro-testiness. Its charm lies in the absurdity, Borf’s minions are as ridiculous as the traps Dexter dodges. But be prepared: the shortened scenes and lack of modern conveniences make for a niche, twitchy ride best approached with patience and humor.
