Space Invaders tasks you with maneuvering a laser cannon left and right at the bottom of the screen to blast waves of alien invaders. The enemies march in neat rows, shifting direction as they inch closer. Each shot you fire takes down one target while earning points. The longer you survive, the faster the aliens advance and the more frantic the soundtrack becomes. A straightforward loop of dodge, aim, and destroy that's easy to pick up but tricky to master. Co-op play lets two players defend together, splitting the frontline duties. Originally released in 1999, it ran on systems from N64 to Dreamcast, proving its simple design worked across hardware. While not a technical marvel, its tight controls and escalating tension kept players coming back. With no fancy stories or power-ups, it’s pure arcade nostalgia, proving sometimes all you need is a screen full of aliens and a decent trigger finger.
