Space Shadow is a tense, first-person shooter that turns tight corridors into battlegrounds. You stand in a narrow, looping hallway as faceless aliens burst from walls and drop from ceilings. Using the Hyper Shot light gun, a toy submachine gun bundled with the game, you snap off rounds to keep the swarm at bay. The fixed camera angle and repetitive layout don’t let up, turning every trigger squeeze into a twitchy reflex test. It’s a simple loop, but the claustrophobia sells the horror. This title exists as a footnote in light gun history. Packaged exclusively with Japan’s Bandai Hyper Shot peripheral, it never made it to the US, where the format peaked with games like Duck Hunt. Despite its dated presentation, it’s a relic of 1980s arcade horror, drawing obvious parallels to sci-fi slasher films. Nostalgic players chase it for the novelty, while the gun’s mechanical click and the soundtrack’s 8-bit dread make it feel more physical than most Famicom games.
