Speed Freak is a 1979 arcade racing game where you steer a car down a computer-generated road at breakneck speed. Your goal is to avoid collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians, and random obstacles like trees and cacti while racing the clock. The screen scrolls rapidly, forcing quick reflexes as objects dart across the path. Crashing is inevitable but optional, you can keep going until time runs out. Early impacts crack the windshield. Later ones blow the car apart into flying debris. What set it apart were the two distinct crash animations, a rarity for 1979 arcade titles.
