Spellbound! is a 1991 arcade shooter where you fire at enemies to gather letters and spell out target words. You play as Hal, fighting Morgana the Morbid’s forces while building vocabulary one bullet at a time. Each level gives a word to complete by collecting letters scattered in the chaos. The faster you finish the word, the more points you score. The game balances quick reflexes with word recognition, mixing action and basic education in a side-scrolling format. Released on Amiga and Atari ST/STE, Spellbound! leans into early ’90s retro aesthetics with pixelated enemies and simple but functional gameplay. Its niche concept of blending spelling practice with shooting hasn’t aged well, but it remains a curiosity for fans of old-school edutainment. Single-player only, with no frills beyond its letter-hunting core.
You play as Hal who have been asked by his cousin Henrietta to help deal with Morgana the Morbid.
