About

Spellcross: The Last Battle drops you into a tactical war zone where modern soldiers clash with creatures from other dimensions. As Colonel John Alexander, you command a small band of troops pinned behind enemy lines, navigating grid-based battlefields to regroup with allies and repel waves of orcs, undead, and harpies. Each turn requires careful planning, balancing line of sight, terrain advantages, and limited resources to outmaneuver opponents. Missions escalate from desperate escapes to large-scale assaults as the story unfolds through cutscenes and mission briefings. The game’s strength lies in its tight blend of military strategy and fantasy horror. Portals to hellish realms inject unpredictability, dropping hordes of demons into the fray. Units have distinct roles and weaknesses, demanding adaptability. While its 1997 DOS era graphics feel dated, the strategic depth and escalating narrative, centered on preventing a primordial titan’s awakening, still hold weight. A small but dedicated community praises its replayability and challenging AI, with some campaigns lasting over 20 hours. The mix of brutal combat and tactical puzzle-solving makes it a sleeper hit for old-school strategy fans.

The story unfolds that they are attempting to awaken a sleeping titan within the Earth's core. The forces of darkness use portals and gates to different dimensions to bring hordes of demonic creatures into the world.
