Spider: The Video Game casts you as an augmented arachnid with a neural transmitter and upgradeable limbs. Navigate 3D side-scrolling labs and factories by collecting microchips and locating exits. Your base tools are slashing legs and web-slinging but power-ups add flame throwers boomerangs and homing missiles. Combat ranges from swarms of cyber-rats to toxic frogs while evading enemy spiders. Level design mixes platforming puzzles with shooter mechanics as you progress through environments like sewers and museums. The game leans into its sci-fi premise with over-the-top gadgetry and a lab-based adventure. While not a critical darling it carved a niche for fans of quirky 90s platformers. Its PlayStation-era graphics and occasionally glitchy collision detection feel dated but the spider’s arsenal and level variety keep it engaging for retro gamers. The story about a mind-transference heist adds a campy throughline to otherwise straightforward level grinding.
Dr. Michael Kelly is inventing a device that can transfer minds into cybernetic insects. One night a nameless brain villain who is head of a company known as Micro Tech infiltrates his lab to steal the technology, During the invasion he gets shot and electrocuted and has his mind transferred inside the cybernetic spider also permanently attaching the head set device to his body. After getting unconscious the raiders take his body with them to detach the device by any means possible and you as the spider must journey through places such as Labs, Factories, The City, Museum, Sewer, to stop Micro Tech and get your body back.
