About

SpikeOut: Digital Battle Online is a 3D beat 'em up where you fight through waves of enemies in a neon-soaked urban setting. Choose from four playable characters and take on hordes of gang members using a mix of melee attacks, dodges, and environmental objects. The single-player campaign follows a straightforward rivalry between the dominant Inferno gang and the underdog Spike team, while co-op and versus modes let you team up or clash with others in arcade-style brawls. Released in 1998, the game gained attention for its colorful visuals and responsive combat at the time of its arcade launch. A 1999 update called Final Edition added new stages and moves. Though overshadowed by later brawler titles, its fast-paced action and support for local multiplayer made it a niche favorite. Sega AM11’s work here leans into late 90s arcade energy without overcomplicating the formula.

Storyline

In downtown Diesel Town in the USA, the city's young gangsters, harbouring unleashed anger, form small and large groups known as 'teams'. Then, Team 'Inferno' suddenly appears and quickly takes over the town with its overwhelming power, numbers and elaborate strategy. The leader of Inferno, called 'Big Boss', who felt a strong sense of discomfort and fighting spirit at the words 'the four strongest people in this city' uttered by the team, who never gave up their resistance to the end, planned to target Team 'Spike' for 'complete domination'.
