"While it may have been released a couple of years ago now, the newest version of Splice looks and feels like it belongs on the PS4. Its minimalistic looks belie a real head scratching experience, which will push your brain to its absolute limits. It can be a little tricky to get into – and even then, it probably won't be for everyone – but give it a chance, and you'll find a delightfully challenging experience. Plus, if the game stresses you out too much, you can just sit back and listen to the wonderfully calming soundtrack."

About

Splitz is a puzzle game where you assemble fragmented images by launching and maneuvering pieces across a grid. Each puzzle starts with an empty board except for a single piece in the top left corner. You control a cursor to push pieces horizontally or vertically, rearranging them to match a hidden image. Pressing a button reveals the target picture at any time. Puzzles are timed and you have three lives to complete them before losing progress. Pieces can be sent through doors to reset their position or stored for later use. The game’s standout elements include interactive objects like timed bombs that cost lives if not neutralized and water taps that deactivate them. Cracks in walls let you bounce pieces back to their starting spots, adding strategic depth. While the 1993 Game Boy version keeps the core mechanics of the 1986 original, its portability and puzzle variety made it a niche favorite among retro puzzle fans. The blend of spatial reasoning and quick decision-making under pressure sets it apart from static sliding puzzles.
