Spyro: A Hero's Tail is a platformer that follows the purple dragon’s latest adventure, this time teaming up with new allies to stop a vengeful former mentor. The game shifts from the series’ usual focus on collecting eggs, instead tasking Spyro with battling Red, a banished Dragon Elder seeking to reclaim power. Players control Spyro, his dragonfly sidekick Sparx, and three human characters each with distinct abilities, navigating varied environments filled with puzzles and enemies. The level design leans into the era’s 3D platforming norms, with fluid combat and exploration blending seamlessly. Developed by Eurocom and released in 2004, the game marks the end of the original Spyro continuity on consoles. It’s the first in the series built entirely in Europe and the only one to appear on Xbox at launch. While not as revered as earlier entries, it offers a solid continuation with new villains and characters, maintaining the charm and simplicity that made the franchise beloved. The GameCube version supports widescreen, a rare feature at the time.
