Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs is a platform game built around exploration and combat in a 3D-like world. You navigate colorful levels filled with puzzles and enemies while collecting dragon eggs and battling Ripto's rhynoc armies. The game adds layers with side quests and a basic inventory system letting you equip tools for different challenges. Movement feels tight for a GBA title with precise jumps and attacks. The story centers on mending a broken portal between two realms before it's too late. The RPG touches set this apart from earlier Spyro entries. Mini-quests offer optional rewards without slowing the main path. While the core loop stays familiar, managing items adds strategy to fights and platforming. Community feedback often points to the balanced difficulty and tighter level design compared to later handheld ports. A solid entry that feels both familiar and slightly more complex.
One of the Professor's inventions has inadvertently torn a large hole in the fabric of space/time, creating a portal between the Rhynoc Lands and the Dragon Realms. Ripto, naturally, is taking full advantage of this, as he starts sending his armies of rhynocs through the portal to wreak havoc. Spyro must find somehow find a way to close the portal before Ripto succeeds in taking over the Dragon Realms.
