Spyro Reignited Trilogy brings back the purple dragon from three classic PS1 games. Toys for Bob rebuilt Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage!, and Year of the Dragon with modern graphics while keeping the original levels intact. Activision published this collection on November 13, 2018 across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game lets players control Spyro as he flies over islands to save his dragon friends from evil sorcerers. It is a straightforward adventure that remastering veterans have waited years for. You get all three stories in one package with updated textures and smoother frame rates on modern hardware.
You run, jump, and glide through vibrant worlds filled with collectibles and enemies to defeat. Spyro breathes fire at foes or headbutts them into submission while rolling to dodge attacks. Each level contains gems, red orbs, and chests that you hunt for as you progress. The game features a hub world where you talk to characters and unlock new areas in the main trilogy titles. Controls feel responsive whether you are on a controller or keyboard. You tackle distinct enemies like gnorcs and wizards while solving simple environmental puzzles to reach exit doors. Sessions last about an hour per level as you search for every hidden item to get 100 percent completion.
Critics gave this project solid marks with a Metacritic score of 80 and an IGDB rating of 83.5 from 239 user ratings. PlayPile data shows the community enjoys the nostalgia but finds the challenge moderate since only 18.5 percent of achievements unlock on average. The rarest trophy is Monkeying Around at just 5.30 percent, which suggests players struggle with specific difficult tasks in the later stages. Most users spend significant time hunting for every gem and dragon egg rather than rushing through story missions. Community moods lean toward appreciation for the visual overhaul despite some finding the gameplay loops repetitive after a few hours of play.
This title is worth buying if you want to relive the late 90s without buying original discs or struggling with emulation. The price point makes sense since you get three full games in one package. Completionists will love hunting for that elusive Monkeying Around achievement even though it takes dedication. Casual players can finish the story quickly but might feel short changed by the lack of new content beyond visual upgrades. You should play this if you have a console or PC and enjoy platformers with clear objectives. Skip it if you need constant innovation because the mechanics are identical to the original releases.
