Spyro: Season of Ice shifts the series to a top-down perspective for its Game Boy Advance debut. You navigate ice-capped worlds using glide jumps, fire breath, and platforming precision. Bonus levels let you soar through pseudo-3D skies using GBA’s Mode 7 effects. Combat and puzzle-solving retain the Spyro formula but adapt to the smaller screen and directional pad controls. The story follows the dragon’s quest to thaw frozen fairies after a new villain’s scheme. Digital Eclipse’s take on the franchise feels familiar but slightly cramped by handheld limitations. The isometric view changes up the usual 3D feel while keeping core mechanics intact. Fans note the shorter level count compared to PlayStation entries but praise the brisk, portable playstyle. Humor pops up in unexpected places like a villain using ice to avoid “a certain Panadol future.” It’s a solid if modest entry for Spyro enthusiasts with a GBA.
Spyro: Season of Ice takes place after the defeat of the Sorceress. Grendor, an evil Rhynoc wizard, has turned all of the fairies of the Dragon Realms into ice blocks, sending out his band of Rhynoc warriors to collect them, and use them to stop his headache. Only the fire power of Spyro, with Hunter and Sparx on hand to help, can save the fairies from a certain Panadol future.
