Star Jacker is a 1983 vertical scrolling shooter where players control three fighters simultaneously. The lead ship is flanked by two wingmen that follow its movements and fire together. Players attack airborne enemies and ground targets using missiles and bombs. Gameplay pauses and resets position when any fighter is destroyed, resuming from the same location. The challenge comes without continues, losing all ships ends the game immediately. The game's three-ship mechanic added tactical depth to early arcade shooters. Though its 16 community ratings average 3.9/5, many note its punishing difficulty and lack of checkpoints. As a precursor to later 1980s shoot-em-ups, it helped establish patterns for synchronized ship controls and layered attack systems. The rigid difficulty curve remains divisive among players.
