Star Raiders II is a 3D space shooter where you pilot the Liberty Star through dogfights against Zylon forces. Navigate the Celos IV system by warping between planets, fending off Fighter and Destroyer squadrons while managing fuel reserves. Refuel at friendly stations between battles, but watch for waves of enemies en route. Victory means blowing up Zylon bases, while defeat comes from running out of gas or letting cities fall. Combat is fast and top-down, with distinct enemy behaviors and basic but responsive controls. The game started as a The Last Starfighter tie-in but evolved into a standalone sequel with tweaked mechanics. It dropped the movie connection and reworked the original Star Raiders’ grid-based strategy into a more arcadey experience. While not as revered as the 1979 classic, it remains a solid example of 8-bit shooter design. Its 1986 release date and ports to C64, Spectrum, and CPC systems made it a cross-platform oddity. Players seeking retro space combat with a focus on resource management and quick reflexes might find it a worthwhile blast.
The Zylons have returned to attack the Celos IV star system. In this 3D shoot-'em-up, the player takes control of the Liberty Star and must warp to threatened planets to battle the Zylon Fly Fighters and Destroyers. The Zylon Squadrons can also be attacked while in transit, and friendly Space Stations allow refueling. To achieve victory, the Zylon Attack Bases on their own planets must be destroyed. The game ends if the Liberty Star runs out of fuel, or if all cities are destroyed by Zylons.
