About

StarHawk casts you as a pilot navigating a retro space shooter with layered scrolling and upgradeable ship parts. Five stages take you across alien worlds and fiery transitions as you blast through waves of deformed creatures and mechanical hybrids. Each level throws swarms of enemies at you from all directions including floating eyeballs that spit goo spinning saw blades and crystalline turrets that spew poison. Your ship gains new weapons and armor between stages but the waves keep coming faster and the bosses bigger. The parallax effects stand out for a 1993 Game Boy title giving depth to the chaos. The design leans into pure action with little slowdown during intense firefights. Community logs note the difficulty spikes sharply in later stages but the progression loop of earning upgrades and mastering patterns keeps players coming back. No frills just tight controls and relentless waves of weird.

Storyline

As a master mariner aboard the scout ship StarHawk, you have been sent to explore the Evil Empire of Axtar. You were prepared for almost anything - anything but the rampant mutants that infest this raging realm of never-ending combat. Half organic, half technological, the freakish life forms of Axtar have only one instinct: to attack. Hordes of alien beasties come at you from all sides and your ship is transported from world to world through fire levels. You shudder at the sight of grotesque globule-emitting eyeballs, terrifying buzzsaw-like energy disks, implacable, poison jetting phenocrysts, and huge end-level bosses. As the battle rages on, you'll need nerves of steel and lightning quick reflexes to survive!
