Steel Machine casts you as a pilot defending Earth from six waves of invading battle cruisers. Your only weapon is a heavily armed mech that tears through waves of enemy ships across six increasingly chaotic levels. Controls are basic but responsive for a CD-i title, focusing on dodging projectiles and locking onto targets in fast paced dogfights. Each stage throws more ships at you until you reach the final boss of each fleet. Released in 1993 for Philips CD-i, this arcade port stands out as one of the platform's more aggressive action titles. It lacks the polish of contemporary 16-bit shooters but delivers raw, no frills combat that fans of old school shoot em ups might appreciate. The simplicity of its six level structure and repetitive enemy patterns make it a quick play through, though its CD-i origins mean it's best approached as a curiosity or for collectors.
