About Street Fighter IV

Street Fighter IV marks the return of Capcom's legendary fighting series to its roots while using next-generation technology. Released on July 18, 2008, this title bridges the gap between Street Fighter II and III in its timeline. Dimps developed the game under Capcom's publishing banner, bringing classic moves into a modern 3D environment. Players can jump into the action on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, or mobile devices like Android and iOS. The story follows S.I.N. corporation after M. Bison survives, launching a tournament to lure Ryu for their BLECE project. Newcomers like Abel and C.Viper join the roster alongside veterans. This is a straightforward fighting game that respects the franchise's history while pushing visual fidelity forward.

Gameplay

You engage in one-on-one combat using a four-button layout that manages punches, kicks, and special moves. A typical session involves selecting a character from the expanded roster and dropping into a match against an opponent or AI. The core loop relies on mastering timing for Hadoken throws, shoryuken uppercuts, and hurricane kicks. You must block incoming attacks by holding back or jumping to avoid ground-based moves. The game features single-player campaigns where you fight through a gauntlet of rivals before facing the final boss. Multiplayer lobbies allow you to test your skills against others online. Controls feel tight with minimal input lag. Matches end when one player depletes their health bar or runs out of time. You can also train in a practice mode to refine combos without pressure.

What Players Think

PlayPile users hold this title in high regard with an IGDB score of 84.7 out of 100 based on 187 ratings. Community data shows that players spend an average of 25 hours exploring the single-player modes and tournaments. Completion rates for main story objectives sit at 62 percent, while many users return to the game for online matches after years. User reviews frequently praise the tight controls and nostalgic feel. The community mood is consistently listed as "competitive" and "nostalgic." Critics often highlight the visual upgrade from previous entries as a major selling point. No other site tracks how long people actually stick with this fighting game, but our data proves it has lasting appeal. Players who invest time in learning character matchups tend to rate the experience significantly higher than casual one-offs.

PlayPile's Take

This title is worth playing if you want a solid fighting game with deep mechanics and a strong online presence. The price point varies by platform, but the value comes from the longevity of the community. There are 25 achievements available to chase for those who enjoy completionist goals. You get a full roster with eight new characters added to the original lineup. Some players find the AI in later rounds punishing without proper practice. This game does not rely on gimmicks or story-heavy cutscenes to carry the experience. It is a technical marvel that prioritizes competitive balance over flashiness. Grab it if you enjoy games where skill matters more than luck.

Storyline

Street Fighter IV takes place several months after the events of Street Fighter II (thus is chronologically set between Street Fighter II and III). After M. Bison's survival following his encounter with Akuma, the S.I.N. corporation began another fighting tournament in order to draw out the most powerful fighters on Earth to complete the BLECE project. Each character has their own reasons for entering this tournament, but S.I.N.'s real desire is to lure Ryu to them in order to analyze the Satsui no Hadō, believed to be the last piece of data needed to complete BLECE.
