Strike Force Harrier casts you as a pilot tasked with dismantling enemy forces to reach a distant target. You start by neutralizing tanks near your base to secure new zones, repeating the cycle as you inch closer to a central command post. The game blends aerial combat with strategic map management, requiring you to balance immediate threats with long term objectives. Controls emphasize precision flying, while a grid-based system tracks progress. The sheer scale of the map offers replayability few 80s titles match. With 512 potential zones to conquer, your path to victory rarely follows the same route twice. Though demanding for modern players, its structured approach to base building and resource management feels ahead of its time. The availability on multiple retro platforms means purists can pick their system of choice to experience this methodical war game.
Your mission is to destroy the enemy HQ 125 miles NNE of your starting position as shown both on FOTRAC and on the grid map. To reach enemy HQ, you will need first to destroy the enemy tanks threatening your ground sites. When you’ve done this, your next move is to set up a new ground site in an adjacent operational area. Unfortunately, these will also come under threat from enemy tanks which will in turn have to be destroyed—and so the process goes on. There are a total of 512 operational areas at your disposal, but obviously not all need to be taken to reach your goal.
