SubRoc 3D is a fast-paced arcade shooter where you control a submarine through a periscope view. You fire at enemy planes and ships while dodging torpedoes and depth charges. The gameplay loops around avoiding damage while scoring hits, with escalating difficulty as you progress. Controls are simple but demand quick reflexes, especially when juggling threats from all angles. What sets it apart is the use of forced perspective to simulate 3D, a rarity in 1982. The overhead view of the ocean and sudden appearances of targets create tension even in the simplest mechanics. While the ColecoVision port lacks 3D and some visual flair, the core loop remains sharp. It's a brief but punchy experience that helped push early arcade design boundaries.
