About

Suishou no Dragon is a sci-fi adventure game where players navigate a mystery involving a mysterious crystal dragon. Released in 1986 for the Family Computer Disk System, it uses point-and-click exploration and dialogue choices to shape the story. You play as someone searching for missing friends, following cryptic transmissions and piecing together clues in a story driven by text and still images. The pacing is deliberate, prioritizing atmosphere and reading over action. Developed by Square before their RPG dominance, this title shows early ambition in interactive storytelling. The disk-based format let it include more text and graphics than typical cartridges, pushing Famicom’s capabilities. Players often note its heavy reliance on reading and decision-making, which contrasts with the platform’s action-heavy titles. While technical limitations are evident, retro fans appreciate its narrative focus. Niche but notable, it remains a curiosity for those interested in early visual novel experiments.

Storyline

"…last transmission mentioned a so-called crystal dragon…" That dragon intercepted a shuttle bearing my friends Cynthia and Nial. Where could it have taken them? There's got to be a clue somewhere. "Are you sure it wasn't a hallucination?"
