About

Summer Time Render: Another Horizon is a mystery-driven visual novel that follows Shinpei Ajiro as he returns to his coastal hometown after a friend’s sudden death. Players navigate a story rooted in folklore and personal loss, uncovering secrets tied to a curse that links shadows to mortality. The narrative splits into six distinct scenarios, each shaped by player choices that ripple across three tense days. Dialogue options and branching paths determine outcomes, with no clear solutions, only trade-offs that deepen the story’s emotional weight. The game blends investigative intrigue with intimate character moments, all presented through static backgrounds and expressive art. The game’s strength lies in its layered storytelling and high replay value. With multiple endings and scenarios, each decision feels impactful, though not always satisfying. Players often discuss the moral ambiguity of choices and how the structure mirrors the characters’ desperation. While the pacing slows during lengthy text segments, the core mystery of Hitogashima’s curse remains gripping. Released in 2023, it’s a polished entry in the visual novel genre that leans heavily into its source material’s legacy.

Storyline

Shinpei Ajiro returns to his hometown of Hitogashima after two years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend Ushio Kofune. While reuniting with Ushio’s younger sister Mio and best friend Sou, he learns about Ushio’s mysterious cause of death and the legend of the “shadow disease” passed down through the ages. The legend of the shadows—it is said that anyone who sees a shadow with their appearance will die. Ushio was said to have seen that shadow. The shadows of death haunt Shinpei and his friends. Eventually, the day of despair visits Hitogashima. “How can we save our friends, protect the islanders, and avoid death?…” Shinpei is forced to constantly think and make decisions in order to avoid despair, but every choice may only open a new door to despair. But he cannot afford to stop thinking and making decisions. To overcome the three days of despair.
