About

Sunken Tower is a platformer with roguelike elements where you navigate a procedurally generated dungeon descending through underground layers. Each run involves collecting resources, avoiding hazards, and battling enemies while managing limited inventory space. The goal shifts beyond simple treasure hunting as you track down missing explorers, some offer new abilities, others provide gear for future attempts. Movement feels tight with precise jumps and momentum-based traversal, though the randomly placed traps and enemy placements can lead to sudden deaths. The game stands out for its layered motivation, rescuing characters adds emotional stakes to otherwise repetitive runs. With no hand-holding, players piece together the kingdom’s tragic backstory through scattered logs and environmental details. The minimalist art style keeps the focus on action, though the lack of boss fights or evolving mechanics beyond character swaps might shorten replayability. Early players on indie forums note its addictive difficulty curve, but 70% of those who tried it finished within three sessions.

Storyline

Long before the events of the game, there lived a small but thriving kingdom, until the king mysteriously died and his successor took over. The new king destroyed the kingdom with his own greed, causing the six strongest magicians to seek revenge, placing a spell on the tower, flooding it with monsters. The weight of the spell became too much to bear for the shoddily built tower, however, and it sunk beneath the ground, trapping those inside. Without a king, the already dying kingdom didn't last long, and those who called it home vanished before too long. Stories of the king's great wealth spread throughout the land, and those brave or stupid enough flocked to The Sunken Tower, each with their own reasons, but with one shared goal: to get their hands on the king's treasure. Over time, these explorers stopped returning to the surface after their expeditions, but the leader of the team is certain that they're alive, and it's up to the player to find them, uncover the mysteries of The Tower and finally reach the king's vault.
