Super Mario's Wacky Worlds started life as a sequel to Super Mario World before NovaLogic built it for the Philips CD-i. Players control Mario through platforming stages that feel like a mix of adventure and simulation. The team created an early prototype that Nintendo tested and gave good notes on before the project stopped. You would have jumped, ran, and solved puzzles in a world designed to expand on the SNES classic. The reason this title never reached shelves comes down to bad timing rather than bad design. Sales for the Philips CD-i system dropped fast while the game was still in production. Nintendo liked what they saw in the build but could not justify releasing it on a dying console. This cancellation left players with just a glimpse of what might have been instead of a full game. The prototype remains a curious piece of history for those who follow cancelled projects.
