Superfrog is a 2D platformer where you play a frog prince transformed by a magical drink. Jump, leap, and power-up through levels filled with spiked traps, floating enemies, and shifting terrain. The goal is to rescue your kidnapped princess from a witch while balancing on narrow platforms and dodging hazards. Power-ups let you change size, shoot projectiles, or dash through obstacles. The game mixes fast-paced action with precise timing, often punishing mistakes with instant restarts. The game’s charm comes from its bright, cartoonish visuals and goofy enemy designs like bouncing beetles and floating eyeballs. Retro players praise its tight controls and escalating difficulty, though modern standards might find the physics harsh. The frog’s transformation via a bottle of Lucozade adds a cheeky twist to the classic fairy tale setup. Originally a 1993 Amiga hit, it’s since appeared on DOS and Amiga CD32, retaining its quirky appeal for platforming purists.
The story concerns an unnamed prince, who is turned into a frog by a jealous witch, in homage to the Frog Prince fairy tale. His princess girlfriend is then abducted by the same witch. Subsequently, sulking by the "River O' Despair", the prince chances upon a floating bottle of Lucozade, which confers upon him superpowers. With his new powers, the prince heads off to fight the evil witch and save the princess.
