"All in all, what do we think? The game sure has a lot of content, but the pacing can be a bit slow if you are impatient like me. The gameplay itself is fun and doesn’t feel too repetitive or grindy, at least not for me, even though you basically do the same thing every day. Some of the customers can be a little stupid, but let’s be real: that only makes it more realistic. Now, this is not to say that the game has no flaws. There are some controversies around this game related to its art, which has (allegedly) got a very strong AI feel to it. A lot of people seem to be bothered by this, especially since the use of AI would need to be disclosed on the Steam page. However, this has not really been confirmed and is still a bit up in the air. Another big issue is the fact that there is no key remapping, so unless you change your keyboard language, the game is near impossible to play on certain keyboards. This is also quite an accessibility flaw, as some people prefer to remap keys for comfort or convenience. For me, this game doesn’t stick out all too much among the countless other simulation games that dropped in the past year, but it’s definitely up there with the better ones. It delivers what it promises, has a fun gameplay loop and gives you a good chunk of content. That being said, today I am giving Supermarket Simulator the Thumb Culture Gold Award."

About Supermarket Simulator

Nokta Games launched Supermarket Simulator in June 2025 as a straight-up indie management title. You run a grocery store on PC, Mac, and Xbox Series X|S while handling every chore yourself. The game throws you into a high-stakes environment where the mafia funded your startup. You must keep the shelves stocked and meet nightly debt payments or face serious trouble. It blends strategy with gritty simulator mechanics for a single-player experience that feels less like fantasy and more like unpaid overtime. The core loop revolves around pricing, inventory, and expansion without any multiplayer distractions.

Gameplay

Your day starts by unloading trucks and placing items on empty shelves until the store looks full enough to attract customers. You then man the register to scan goods or process online orders before they expire. Managing cash flow means setting prices that balance profit margins with what shoppers will actually pay. If you miss a payment deadline, the mafia comes knocking. Expanding your shop requires digging through new inventory options and upgrading your equipment to handle larger crowds. A typical session lasts hours as you shuffle between stocking aisles, watching for low stock alerts, and calculating whether your current pricing strategy covers the debt.

What Players Think

Players on PlayPile are logging serious time with this one. The average playtime sits at 42 hours before people stop playing or finish their main goals. Community ratings show a solid 8.1 out of 10 from over 3,500 verified reviews. Completion rates hit 67 percent, suggesting many users see the story through to the end despite the grind. Users frequently mention the tension of the debt mechanic in mood tags like "stressful" and "addictive." Critic scores hover around 7.8 on major aggregators. The game currently ranks #81 in trending Twitch streams, proving people love watching others manage these chaotic stores live.

PlayPile's Take

This title is worth your money if you enjoy slow-paced management games with a high-stakes narrative hook. At the current price point, the 120 achievements offer plenty of goals for completionists who want to see every possible outcome of their pricing strategies. The mafia debt system adds real urgency that most simulators lack. It is not for players who want quick wins or easy gameplay loops. The repetitive nature of stocking shelves will test your patience before you unlock the larger expansions. Finish the game and pay off your debts if you can handle the pressure.
