Surround pits players against each other in a simple but tense race to outmaneuver. Control a moving shape that leaves a permanent trail across the screen. Each collision with existing lines ends a player’s turn, forcing them to watch as opponents take over. Win by making others crash. The game offers single or multiplayer action with options to adjust speed, allow diagonal movement, or let sprites wrap around the screen. Some versions let players erase their path temporarily, adding a layer of strategy to quick decisions. Released in 1977, this Atari 2600 title was one of the first home console adaptations of the Blockade mechanic that later evolved into Snake. The original cartridge includes 14 distinct game modes, with 12 variations of the trail-based gameplay. Players can test reflexes against friends or the AI.
