Sweet Season is a 2002 visual novel by Tarte that follows Yoshinori Asamiya, a high school freshman in a shogi club. After meeting Ayumi Jinguuji, a girl from another school with her own shogi interest, the story explores their growing connection. Players navigate dialogue choices that shape interactions, focusing on character dynamics and school life. The single-player experience unfolds through static scenes and branching paths, typical of early visual novels. Released nearly two decades ago, Sweet Season stands out as an early example of the genre’s focus on personal relationships. Its simple presentation and school club setting appeal to fans of quiet, character-driven narratives. While not widely discussed today, its early release places it among the formative titles that helped expand visual novels beyond traditional anime-inspired plots.
Yoshinori Asamiya is a high school freshman who is in the shogi club. One day, he meets a girl while she was walking her dog. She's from a different school, but she's on the shogi club as well... That girl was Ayumi Jinguuji, and Yoshinori can't help but be intrigued about her. Even if at first it was difficult to be her friend, Ayumi seems to have taken a liking to him.
