Swoop is a vertical scrolling shooter that pits you against waves of descending aliens. You control a ship at the bottom of the screen firing upward while avoiding enemy fire and debris. The goal is simple: survive as long as possible by clearing each wave and collecting power-ups to boost your firepower. The gameplay leans heavily on reflexes and pattern recognition as the difficulty ramps up quickly. Published by Ambrosia Software in 1995 this Mac-exclusive title was one of the earlier attempts to bring classic arcade mechanics to personal computers. While it doesn’t deviate much from its Galaxian roots fans of old-school shooters might appreciate its no-frills execution. The game’s straightforward design and tight controls make it a quick pick-up though its short replay value and dated visuals keep it from standing out decades later.
