About

Sword of Asumi casts you as a stealthy assassin turned law enforcer in a fictionalized version of Edo-era Japan. You play Asumi, a killer from a shadowy clan now thrust into the public eye as a samurai academy investigator. The game blends turn-based combat with dialogue-driven exploration as you navigate political intrigue and uncover a conspiracy threatening to fracture society. Combat emphasizes positioning and weapon variety while story choices shape alliances and outcomes. The game’s alternate history setting stands out, imagining a world where samurai culture dominates without foreign influence. Its mix of action and moral decisions offers replayability, though some mechanics feel dated by modern standards. With a runtime of roughly 10-15 hours, it’s a concise but memorable indie RPG that earned a 7.5/10 average on user reviews for its tight narrative pacing and atmospheric art style.

Storyline

Welcome to Edo, an alternate realm where history took a different route. The Samurai of Japan were never outlawed and the emperor lost power preventing Japan from opening its borders to the other nations of the world. Enter Asumi - A female samurai of the black clan, trained from birth to kill on command. Now newly appointed as a Justicar of Edo. Our protagonist finds herself in a place she never thought she would be, outside of the shadows, within an academy, trying to root out a rebel before civil war can engulf Edo and its people.Welcome to Edo, an alternate realm where history took a different route.
