Tank Commander puts you in a tank fighting to destroy enemy fuel supplies across a top-down battlefield. Weave through hills, rivers, and forests while dodging other tanks and occasional bombing jets. Blast trees or plow through them, but roads attract enemy fire. Ammo is limited so every shot counts, and losing to enemies costs lives. Up to two players take turns after being killed, trading control until one remains. This 1984 title for Atari and VIC-20 remains a curious artifact of early gaming. Its core loop of terrain navigation and resource management feels surprisingly tight for its time. Players appreciate the balance between risk and reward, roads speed up movement but draw attention, while careful ammo use lets you outlast foes. The multiplayer mode, where turns reset after deaths, adds a patient edge to the chaos. Though basic by today's standards, its stripped-down mechanics earned it a small but dedicated following in retro circles.
