Tantei Jinguji Saburo: Kiken na Futari is a visual novel mystery where you follow detective Saburo as he investigates a suspicious death at a motorcycle race. The case takes a twist when the victim’s identity doesn’t match the body found at the scene. Players piece together clues through dialogue, static scenes, and limited branching paths, all while navigating the procedural beats of 80s-era detective work. The Famicom Disk System format allowed for more text storage than cartridges, letting the story unfold with decent depth for its time. This third entry in the Jinguji series leans into the franchise’s formula of straightforward puzzles and red herrings. While it lacks the polish of later entries, fans of retro detective games note its brisk pacing and the clever body-switch reveal. Its two-disk release in Japan created a wait between chapters, a structure that feels oddly prescient for episodic gaming. The DS compilation later streamlined the experience, but the original’s disk-based format remains a curiosity for collectors.
