Targ is a fast-paced arcade shooter where you pilot the Whummel through a 9x9 grid called Crystal City. Your goal is to destroy 10 wedge-shaped enemy vehicles while dodging their attacks. The game blends rapid movement with precise shooting using a four-way joystick and fire button. Each level clears when all targets are eliminated, unlocking the next stage. A two-player mode lets friends take turns, though the action never slows down. As you progress, enemies move quicker and predict your moves better turning every match into a high-stakes chase. The game’s simplicity hides its challenge. Destroying bonus targets called Spectars earns extra points but they only appear randomly adding a luck element to skill. Names like "Targ" and "Spectar" are nods to their roles as "Target" and "Special Target" a detail few games from 1980 bother to explain. A direct sequel named Spectar was released the same year but this original remains notable for its tight controls and escalating difficulty. Players who relish quick reflexes over story will find it holds up better than most early ’80s shooters.
