Tecmo Super NBA Basketball drops you into a 1994 NBA season with all 27 teams of the era and over 320 real players. Play solo or with a friend in exhibition matches or custom seasons that condense the real thing into shorter formats. The horizontal scrolling courts let you handle basic ball movement and defense while digitized audio clips and cinematic angles like a close-up free throw shot add flavor. You can tweak playbooks between quarters and manage substitutions but the controls keep things simple for quick sessions. The game’s charm comes from its era-specific quirks. The 90s NBA rosters feel fresh even now and the ability to program custom win/loss records adds replayability. While the Mega Drive version runs smoother the SNES edition wins for its sharper visuals and speech samples. Casual basketball fans appreciated the straightforward mechanics and packed modes back in the day and retro sports buffs still rate it as one of the better early 90s basketball simulations.
