This Game Boy adventure drops you into the sewers of New York as one of the four Turtles. Each brother wields distinct weapons from nunchaku to sais, and you’ll switch between them to tackle puzzles and enemies. The story sees Shredder and his goons kidnapping April again, forcing the Turtles to battle through five Manhattan stages like a traffic-clogged street and a mechanical Technodrome. Combat mixes basic brawling with thrown shurikens, while platforming challenges test timing over ledges and moving hazards. The single-player campaign leans into simple but repetitive mechanics, with progression tied to clearing levels rather than hidden secrets. While the 1990s-era sprite work feels dated, the game stands out for its roster of goofy new villains like Filet O’Filth and the variety of environments. The inclusion of all four Turtles as playable characters was a rare treat for the era, letting you swap between their attack styles mid-fight. Though not a technical showcase, it remains a nostalgic pick for fans who remember the original Turtles cartoon. The lack of hidden levels or branching paths keeps it straightforward, but the chaotic enemy designs and over-the-top level names like Waste Dump Ravine add charm.
April has been kidnapped once again by the Shredder, Krang and cohorts, and Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello set out to rescue her from their enemies' clutches. The chase leads them through the sewers and the streets of New York City, the river, and then the Technodrome.
