About

Chase down Shredder’s goons in this side-scrolling brawler where four Turtles brawl through New York’s shrinking skyline. Players slash, kick, and shell-shock enemies in fast-paced co-op or solo runs, trading blows in stages that mix city streets with sci-fi twists. The plot leans into wild 90s TMNT absurdity: a glowing Hyperstone shrinks Manhattan while Shredder monologues about world domination. Controls are tight for the era, with basic combos and cover systems that let you switch between characters mid-fight. A cult classic on Sega Genesis, this 1992 title earned a 7.5/10 on GameRankings for its chaotic energy and split-screen multiplayer. Known as Return of the Shredder in Japan, it’s remembered for its over-the-top action and pixel-perfect Turtle animations. While the story’s a mess of dimensional portals and mechs, the gameplay stays punchy, especially when teaming up to take down henchmen in waves. Still holds up for nostalgia runs or TMNT fans hunting retro brawls.

Storyline

April O'Neil is reporting from Liberty Island when, in a sudden flash of light, her audience and herself witness Manhattan Island suddenly starting to shrink. Shredder then hijacks the airwaves and announces to the world that this was only a demonstration of the power of the Hyperstone, the treasure of Dimension X. With the Hyperstone in his possession, he now has the power to take over the world. The Turtles have no choice but to go after Shredder and stop him.
