Tempest is a fast-paced puzzle game where you guide a horseshoe-shaped ship along the edges of shifting 3D geometric fields. Enemies swarm toward you from the opposite end of each level and must be destroyed before they reach your position. Use quick reflexes to dodge obstacles and fire accurately while managing a limited-use "Super-Zapper" to clear waves of threats. The game offers two visual styles: a pixel-perfect recreation of the 1981 arcade original and a modern version with enhanced lighting and effects. Progressive levels introduce new enemy behaviors and tighter layouts forcing faster decisions. The game supports two-player co-op with split-screen controls letting friends take on separate sections of each field. Online leaderboards track high scores for competitive replayability. With 2007 release roots but still active in small player communities, Tempest blends retro mechanics with modern polish. The Throttle Monkey mode adds chaotic speedruns while classic mode preserves the original challenge. Its simple controls and escalating difficulty make it a quick pick-up but tough to master.
