The 10th Planet was a sci-fi space combat title developed by Bethesda Softworks before it got cancelled in the late nineties. Players would have piloted massive starships through a solar system turned into a battlefield while fighting off an alien force hiding on a newly discovered planet. The story involved these invaders using that hidden world as a base to launch attacks on Earth and anything else standing in their way. It was set up for a 1997 release on PC with plans for PlayStation and Sega Saturn ports as well. This project never saw the light of day despite the ambitious scope described in early materials. Fans who follow Bethesda's history often talk about what might have been if it had launched back then. The concept of using a tenth planet as an enemy staging ground adds a nice twist to standard space shooter fare. It remains one of those lost gems that keeps coming up in discussions about cancelled games from the era.
In the distant future, our solar system is a ravaged battlefield, and mighty starship armadas are the tools of our destruction. Using a previously unknown tenth planet orbiting our solar system as its staging ground, an alien force plans on conquering Earth and destroying anything that gets in its way.
