The 4th Coming is a 1998 MMORPG that mixes real-time combat with point-and-click adventure elements. Set across three islands, players build characters using a stat point system and choose between good or evil alignment, shaping their journey through quests and encounters. The game tasks you with navigating vast environments, battling monsters, and interacting with others via a chat system while uncovering a mythic storyline about ancient civilizations and a mysterious Harbinger. The game’s standout feature is its dual alignment system, offering two distinct narratives based on your choices. While the lore-heavy setup leans into classic fantasy tropes, the real-time combat and character customization were notable for its era. With massive maps and a variety of weapons and spells, it’s a relic of early MMO experimentation, functional but rough around the edges. Players looking for a forgotten slice of 90s online gaming might appreciate its ambition, even if the execution feels dated by modern standards.
The game takes place in the fair world of Althea. Althea spans three islands: Arakas, Raven's Dust, and Stoneheim. In these islands, there is much commotion about the various evil deeds being committed. Beginning on Arakas island, players are eventually given the choice to choose their alignment - good or evil. At the end of the long path through the game lies the ultimate evil entity, the powerful lich Makrsh P'Tangh, the corrupt elven king. Players travel through the world unlocking quests, battling monsters in real-time, making allies, etc. The stat point system allows people to create their characters as they wish. By being able to choose their alignment, players are able to experience two sides of the storyline. The game also contains many different visuals, a chat system, has huge areas, and contains a wide variety of weapons and spells.
