The Apprentice is a platform game where you play Marvin, a wizard's apprentice with a to-do list from your boss, Mr. Wandburner. The game has six levels split into three stages each, taking you from land to sea to the skies. For the underwater parts, you turn into a frog, and a flying helmet lets you soar above. Each stage gives you a new tool, think magic wands, water pistols, rubber balls, even a laser gun. Classic platforming stuff like jumping and dodging enemies is there, with a boss at the end of every stage. Bonus rounds pop up between levels for extra points. The mix of settings and gear keeps the gameplay varied, though the CD-i version might feel dated by today's standards. The frog and flying helmet mechanics add some charm, letting you approach levels differently. With 18 stages and a few different weapons to use, there's a decent amount to get through. The game's simple structure and quirky transformations offer a nostalgic look at early 90s platforming design.
