About

The Black Bass is a straightforward fishing sim from 1988 that turns catching fish into a timed challenge. You play as an angler trying to reel in as many black bass as possible before the day ends. Two modes let you adjust the difficulty. Beginner mode is a relaxed way to learn the basics while ranked mode adds pressure with leaderboards and location choices. Progress in the harder mode requires entering passwords which adds a layer of persistence to the gameplay. What sets it apart is its simple yet focused design. While not flashy by modern standards the password system and location-based strategy give it replay value for a late 80s title. It lacks the polish of later fishing games but its no-frills approach appeals to fans of old-school simulators. As the second entry in a niche series it’s a small but self-contained example of how early genre games prioritized mechanics over visuals.

Storyline

In this basic fishing game, the player attempts to catch as many black bass as possible throughout the day. The game allows for beginner mode and ranked mode. The ranked mode requires a password, and allows the player to select a specific location on the lake to begin fishing.
