The Black Sanctum is an early adventure game that drops you into a labyrinth of riddles and traps. You navigate as a lone hero battling curses and collecting ancient artifacts to defeat a shadowy evil. The text-based original released in 1981 later got pixelated graphics in 1984. Puzzle solving and item management drive the action as you explore crypts and cursed ruins. Developed by Mark Data Products and designed by Ron Krebs, it's one of the first games converted for the TRS-80 Color Computer by Stephen O’Dea and Bob Withers. The manual's line about "overcoming the forces of evil" hints at its straightforward but tense tone. With roots in 1980s home computing, it offers rudimentary but charming gameplay for retro fans. Low complexity but high atmosphere, it's a time capsule of early interactive fiction.
