The Black Widow lets you use a Ouija board to interrogate spirits and solve a real historical murder. You play as a medium investigating the 1943 execution of Ruth Snyder, a convicted killer. Every session involves asking open-ended questions to gather clues, with responses shaping the investigation. Choices influence which evidence you uncover, leading to multiple possible conclusions about her guilt. The lack of hand-holding means you can easily go down dead ends, but the game rewards persistence with layered historical details. This simulator blends true crime with experimental gameplay. Unlike most mystery games, it lets you phrase questions however you want, creating a distinctively personal sleuthing experience. While the core story is fixed, the way you approach it changes each playthrough. Over 500 hours of player-generated questions on the community wiki show how varied the paths can be. Available on PC and iOS since 2019, it’s a slow-burn puzzle that works best when you’re willing to think like a detective.
