The Brainies

The Brainies tasks you with guiding four colored characters to matching goal zones across 101 stages. You steer a crosshair to select each Brainy by pressing fire then maneuver it through mazes while avoiding obstacles. Each level imposes a time limit and you lose a life if you run out. Progress requires careful route planning since controlling one Brainy leaves others moving on their own. Released in 1992 this puzzle title appeared on Mac SNES DOS and Amiga among others. Its charm lies in the contrast between simple controls and tricky spatial challenges. Later levels introduce obstacles and moving parts that test reflexes as much as logic. Though largely forgotten the game maintains a small following for its steady difficulty curve and replay value across decades of retro platforms.
