About The Cuniculus of Paradise

The Cuniculus of Paradise is an action RPG with a sci-fi twist. Set in a future where humanity relies on giant mechs called Exos to battle massive creatures, it blends resource management, combat, and exploration. Developed by Doubles Core and published by OTAKU Plan, the game launched in October 2025 on PC. You play as a former mercenary stripped of his ability to use Akasha energy, partnering with a girl who built a non-energy-powered Exo. The story follows their journey to redefine humanity’s role in a world dominated by beasts. It’s a game about adaptation, combining tactical gear customization with dungeon-crawling in the Abyssal Labyrinth.

Gameplay

You pilot a retro Exo through procedurally generated labyrinths, fighting Gigantic Beasts with a mix of melee and elemental attacks. Combat requires managing ammo and energy, with enemies dropping resources for crafting. Missions involve clearing beast-infested zones, while side quests let you tweak your Exo’s modules, each swap changes its handling and abilities. Exploration is key: the labyrinth’s floors shift each run, hiding upgrades and traps. Controls are tight but can feel sluggish during frantic battles. A turn-based dialogue system lets you make moral choices that tweak story outcomes. Sessions last 2, 4 hours, balancing combat, crafting, and light platforming.

What Players Think

PlayPile users rate it 84%, with an average playtime of 22 hours. 73% finish the main story, and 49% hit 100% completion. Community moods are “determined” and “curious,” with 82% enjoying the Exo customization. The game has 100 achievements, 76% of which are completed on average. Critics praise the “fresh take on mechs,” but some note uneven pacing. One review states, “The labyrinth design is brilliant, but combat feels repetitive after 15 hours.” 68% of players finish the game in under 30 hours, while 19% take over 40.

PlayPile's Take

Priced at $39.99, The Cuniculus of Paradise offers a niche blend of mech combat and dungeon crawling. It’s best for fans of tactical RPGs who appreciate slow-burn storytelling and gear tinkering. While the combat falters in intensity and some quests drag, the lore and Exo customization keep it engaging. With 100 achievements and a satisfying 20-hour core loop, it’s worth a try for those who like their mechs with a philosophical edge.

Storyline

In the near future, humanity has achieved remarkable progress with the discovery of infinite energy called "Akasha Particles." However, this advancement also brought about the emergence of "Gigantic Beasts," which dethroned humans from the top of the ecological hierarchy. The survival of the displaced humans now depends on large humanoid weapons called "Exos" and the "Mercenaries" who pilot them. The protagonist, a former mercenary, lost the ability to use Akasha Particles due to a past accident. Unable to pilot an Exo, he considers himself a "defective" and wanders aimlessly, leading a reclusive life. One day, he meets a young girl aspiring to be an Exo mechanic. She inherited her late mother's designs and built an Exo that is scorned as an "antique" by others because it doesn't use Akasha Particles, a stark contrast to the technology of their time. A defective mercenary who can't use particles and an antique Exo that doesn't rely on them—when these two meet, the wheels of their story slowly begin to turn.
